It costs how much to be slim?

Last night I had my second major moment of sticker shock with Slimgenics. I never knew it would cost so much to loose weight. Every where you turn there is another reduction in size but it’s not only me losing weight; my wallet is getting skinny too!

The first shock was the initial price tag to “join” the program. I nearly choked on my lemon laced water, until I worked out the cost per week of it and realized that I am only really paying about $12.34 a week for the entire program including Balance and Weight Control Phases. Ok, not so bad, comparable even to W.W. weekly fee. Still, my reaction to the initial price tag went something like this:

“I have to pay it all at once? Oh, well, that could be a problem, no wait, I have a super hero coming to my rescue (thanks Mom!), here is the dough, and would you also like to have my first born child with that? No? That’s good, because I don’t have one yet.”

Then they tell you that you have to eat the snacks and the drink mix and stuff that they sell, another hidden little cost, but no more expensive really than W.W. snacks or stuff I would have purchased at the grocery store, it all balances out for the most part and I am still sticking to my weekly grocery budget.

Alright, 16 pounds down, doing good, getting into old clothes I haven’t worn in a while, no need to buy new pants just yet (but I know its coming at me eventually), maybe I should join a gym.

“I’m sorry, you want how much of my hard earned cash to come here and sweat? Maybe I didn’t tell you, but Slimgenics already has dibs on my first born, how about taking the 2nd child? First and Last months dues all at once, you are kidding me right? Wow! Um, I think I’ll go to Wal-Mart and buy a video.”

“This beginner yoga DVD, yoga mat and blocks cost what? Jeebus Cripes it’s a conspiracy! Forget it, I’ll just get a pedometer and walk it all off, never mind the fact that it’s currently -4 degrees outside and I’ll probably end up in the E.R. with hypothermia, it will likely be less expensive!”

Now I’ve been on the program over a month and I realize I am out of the recommended herbal blend, so last night I ask for a new bottle when I am purchasing my carb blockers and Omega Fish Oil blends. That’s when it hit’s me, the second major sticker shock of Slimgenics. Over one hundred and twenty dollars for some herbs, no freaking way! If this program wasn’t working so well, I would definitely think about giving up.

My mamma didn’t raise any quitters however, and so I asked my inside man to get them for me at their cost and now I’m off and running once again. I can tell you one thing, this is going to be a very expensive year!

  1. Hi - thanks for stopping by my blog this morning!
Can I ask - what would happen if you didn't buy the supplements? Do they kick you out or something?? If not, then I would just not get them - a multivitamin is probably all you need...
And you can walk as exercise - doesn't cost more than a pair of sneakers! Or borrow some DVD's from the library - this way you can keep things interesting, but you don't have to pay for a bunch of DVD's!

  2. Hi Jenn, thanks for stopping by. Nothing will happen if I don't buy the supplements, it's not like they can take away my birthday right? Fortunately, my cousin can get things for me at her cost for now, when that stops happening, I stop buying supplements. In the meantime Netflex is sending me some exercise DVD's, and since the sun finally came out in Colorfull Colorado I will just lace up my sneakers, turn up my Ipod and get walking!

  3. Chaney,
I've seen reports of $900 for a 56 week regimen at SlimGenics, is that what it cost you (besides your first born!)? Did you tally up the costs for the supplements - what did they run?

The DJs on some stations here in Denver are giving personal testimonials which make it sound like the program works. Unfortunately, I don't work in the radio industry and can't get the quid pro quo deals like they can . . .

    2. I lost 45 pounds in 7 months, but spent $4000 on the diet, real food and their supplements. Crap. Now a year later, I've gained back 25 pounds. Sucks

  4. How much do you think you will spend in say, 6 months time? Food, supplements plus program. I am trying to compare this to superslow zone. Also, they advertise it as being able to eat regular grocery food. How is that when they want you to buy their food? Is this a program that you can eventually do on your own without their help?

  5. The program works. I lost 35 pounds in 6 weeks and have kept it off. For me, paying up front was a commitment to see it through. You can also find snacks and supplements at GNC which are a lot cheaper. Exercise is key. Weight will startt droppimg in 3 days and continue. If you plateau, do a high protein diet for 3 days.

  6. Your blog is great! I did slim 4 life about 2 years ago and lost 40 pounds. Over the last 2 years, I have put back on 20 of them. I went back into the center for help, you know.. slim 4 "LIFE".. and was shocked to find out that they could help me for a large chunk of money, for a "lifetime" memebership. Everytime I go in it seems like I spend another paycheck! Yikes!! But it is working.. so how do you say no? :)

  8. Each person will potentially have a different dollar amount for the plan, because it's all based off the amound of weight you need to loose times X number of weeks. You also have to add in the cost of snacks and supplements but I can give you a general estimate of my price tag. My initall start up costs for 65 weeks of loss, balance and maitenence plus the start up kit of snacks and supplements was about $800.00. That averages out to around $12.40 a week for the plan. I spend about $45.00 additionall per week for snacks and drink mixes (which I would have been spending at the grocery store on junk food and soda anyway)plus maybe another $150 every 3 months or so on suplements (which I don't think you HAVE to buy). So, grand total is maybe $70.00 a week.

I know, it's a huge price tag, but my health is worth it, at least to me. Besides, the average person probably spends about $10.00 on junk anyway. The biggest problem for me was the initiall start up cost.

My suggestion? Call and set up a free consult. They will tell you up front with no obligation how much the initial plan is going to cost.

    Hope that helps.

    1. I just started this week. I will say, I initially thought the price up front for 32 weeks-40 lbs. didn't seem bad for all the help they say you get. I was told the snacks and boost are required but nothing else. I thought it was $45 a month, not $45 a week. So that has been a real bummer to find that out. Plus, already they're pushing buying the Slimcard plan to save you money for all the stuff they think you should take the entire plan. I know the plan is to lose weight quickly, but it's virtually no fat, very limited starches, no sugar, not much dairy. I think I will be bored quickly. I also wonder if I'll have to eat like this forever as I can't image adding foods back, that you wouldn't gain weight. I have buyers remorse already.

  9. I've been on the program since June 09 - lost 70 pounds with 65 more to go. It works. I do not buy thermosnacks from them. You can get them on line (exact same stuff) for $9.95 a box (free delivery if you spend $70). I take efas and thermoboost but gave up the herbs - just can't justify the expense.

    1. Before you go to a consultation you better prepare for high pressured sales. They like for you to feel the pain you are having from your weight they find your weak spot and then they make you feel bad about your self so you pay. Do not take any kind of payment with you. If you do decide to do the program stay with it it is for life if you gain your weight back the program will not work a second time. Do not get sucked into the membership for life plan.

  11. Where on line can you get the thermosnacks? Even if you buy 40 it's still $12.00 per box

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm on the program and it works for me. Originally, I bought their "thermo-snacks" and ate them, and lost weight. Fortunately - they put their nutrition information the boxes etc. So what I did was shop around and I found comparable products at waaaaaaay lower cost and I seem to get the same results. I.e. I don't buy the "thermo-boost" as I make my own - with Crystal Light (individual-size serving) Packets or Lipton Green Tea packets - The main active ingredient in the Thermo-boost appears to be caffeine - and you can get Crystal Light single serve with a variety of flavors with varying amounts of Caffeine. Take your favortie inexpensive vitamin tablet and Voila! You have something comparable that tastes better.

  13. For snack replacements go to dietdirect dot com.

Also check out the Adkins snacks -- we use these and find them to be similar (actually the plans themselves are quite similar).

For the herbs -- check out either Hydroxycut or similar. We (husband and myself) take these for about 1/5 of the price with the same results.

The plan DOES work if you stick to it. Even with the occasional small cheat we lost 100 pounds combined in about 5 months.

  14. The plan most definately works, and while the cost is high, I'm not really looking to change anything at the moment. Thanks for all your suggestions, although I have to say I don't recommend Hydroxycut, I had a personally bad experience with it.

  15. familybariatric dot com has the same snacks for much cheaper. I have been on the plan for 1 week and lost 6 pounds, just have 58 more to go! It is a great program and I have learned a lot about different foods. It is a large cost upfront but I feel very worth it.

My mom just recently died and I have been on a run of emotional eating since her diagnoses 6 months ago, with very little will power. I need the motivation but am worried about the up front cost...I might say I want to loose less to get started...I can't imagine I can't add more program down the road. Great blog by the way! 21. I have speculated that Slimgenics is a new name and face for L.A. Weightloss which was strongly criticized for its sales tactics and cost. did anyone else wonder why just shortly after the LA Weightloss centers closed in Colorado, and the commercials pulled, that Slimgenics showed up with many of the same techniques? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find information to resolve this question. So i'm curious to the last person who posted, since you went through the LA Weightloss program, did you see any differences with Slimgenics when you went for your free consultation?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am fairly certain that L.A. Weightloss is not the same as Slimgenics. Slimgenics used to be Slim for Life, and has been in opperation for seven years now. L.A. Weightloss was definatly around durring the last seven year period.

  26. OK, I have been on this program for 4 weeks and have only lost 4lbs. The last 2 weeks I have only lost 1/4lb. I am following this program to the letter. I am not eating beef because my counselor told me that could be a problem even though I only ate beef once. I eat fish, chicken, fat free cottage cheese, boiled eggs. I'm also eating my thermo snacks and thermo boost. I snack on approved raw veggies. I am getting really frustrated. They told me that if I didn't get the 50lbs off they would have to charge me for continued service. I am exercising too.

  27. I have jointed SlimGenics and it is the same diet as the Michael Thurman diet which you can order online for $130.00 You eat the same foods and 5 times a day. However, you have to do it all on your own. Anyone who has tried to lose weight knows that is the hardest part.

Either diet works, you just need to know what will work for you at this point in your life.

  28. Swedish Chef, are you getting in all your water and your salt? I had a slow start, but I have also seen first hand that the program does work. Best of luck, and I hope to see you around the blog again!

  29. I know Slim4Life was a spinoff of the LA Weight Loss. The owner of Slim4Life worked at LA WL and when she started the S4L business, she tweaked it a bit and voila had a "different" company. Apparently, LA WL was more into supplements, while S4L was not so much. I wonder why they changed their name to Slimgenics. Did the owner, Catherine, leave?

  30. This sounds like the Healthy for Life program developed by Dr. Strand. It promotes a low glycemic balanced diet with pharmacuetical grade multi-vitamins and modest exercise. You can check out his online weightloss program at www.healthyandleanforlife.com. It costs so much less than Slimgenetics with the same results.
You can also check out local programs in Colorado, which follow Dr. Strand's program, called Trinity Health Weightloss. These cost about $50 for a 12 week program of small group care. You can choose to spend about $45 a month for excellent supplements and they also have food items you can purchase, but you won't get the hardsell on these. I lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks on this program and am using the education I learned to keep my family healthy...for life.

  31. the Michael Thurman diet is just a book and CD's. AFter the $130 purchase for that, there are no other costs. I will warn you, when you call the 800 number to order the book, they try to get you to buy vitamins, weight lose enhancements, faster shipping - about 6 things, I said no to all of them including the faster shipping. All of my info still came in 3 days. Just say no to everything 'extra'.

  33. I just joined Slimgenics and it is very similar to LA Weightloss. Slimgenics is more restrictive and they push their products. They told me if I take all their products I won't be hungry but their products add up to 15 pills a day. I am not comfortable with that at all....not sure what I should do.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dear Anonymous,

I am making an exception to my own rule and responding to your post even though I closed this entry out.

Yes, it does add up to about 15-20 "pills" a day. However, most of those pills are supplements like herbs, fish oil, vitamins and minerals...things your body needs, especially durring weight loss. If you are not comfortable with taking all the suplements, ask your councelor to explain to you exactly what is in them, why you should take them, and if there are any you can do without.

Good luck, and please join the rest of the group with my more recent posts.

Yes, the lrice is steep up front but if your willing to put that amount of money up front for you to be happy than it is harder to cheat on the program since you already have so much invested. PS: I havent worked out once since I started the program, although I have cheated a couple times. Best of luck to all of you who join.

I have my consultation today and found that it was a very good presentation. The counselor explained in detail, step by step how the whole thing works. I did question him on exactly how much the supplements would cost me for the 44 week program. It seemed real high priced, but he said the only thing that is mandatory is the snacks. The supplements are optional. I already take most of the supplements which I purchase at Costco at a much cheaper price.
So if you have the will to stand up to the counselors and tell them you are not going to take their supplements, then I suggest that it is worth the money to get healthy. It is a low cost to lengthen you life.
I haven't seen anyone say they didn't lose the weight, just complain about the high cost. I am signing up tomorrow.

  38. I'm totally struggling with Slimgenics. I have followed the program to a tee. Worst thing I've done while on the program was to eat beef one day then tuna the next day. Gained a pound, they blame sodium. I haven't lost a thing in 2 weeks. Been on program for 5 wks. So angry with myself for falling for the pitch and the false hope; and to add insult to injury I paid $1300 for that. Stupid woman!!!

  39. I did Slimgenics in 2008 - when it was called Slim4Life. I lost 39 lbs in 6 months and was fairly easy. Yes, it cost me a lot of money. But, the accountability of going in and having to explain that the chocolate chip cookie really was worth the 1/2 pound weight gian and the slowdown in metabolism for the next couple of days was really worth it....um, it wasnt. I have gained back 7 lbs and have been fighting really hard to lose it. And to make matters worse, one of the councelors is such a snot that she doesnt even acknowlege people when they walk in - well, she says hi, but no eye contact, no smile. Just not as fun to go in and get on a scale in front of 'the judge'. Other than that, I still think the program works, especailly if you have a lot to lose. And if you can swing the price - so long as your doctor doesnt have any issues with the supplements, it is worth it.

  40. My wife and I have done the plan and have been very successful. We are feeling and looking great and have received numerous "great" comments. Our beef is that they want a large sum of money for lifetime assistance. We are in our 60's and do not know how long we would use the service. Also, they would not "bank" our weeks when we were out of state for 3 months. The people there were terrific! We recommend the program with reservations about their policies.

  42. I was on Slim 4 life and really liked going to the center, but the cost is way to much for me. I spent over $5,000 the 1st year, gained half the weight back, but like you say for almost the same cost you can re-join. The food is regular food, but if you get all the kinds of food you should have, that add's up faster then the program. Buying fruit, veggies, seafood, and expensive meat is about another $6,000 a year, if you keep adding it up. I found a place on the internet that makes the same products MyDietshopz.com and they are alot cheaper than buying them at the clinics. Then Aldi stores have great buys on fruit and veggies, so now if I can find a place for cheap meat and seafood, one could stay on this plan forever.

  43. I went for a free consultation (which ended with "So will that be cash, cheque or charge?) and was very put-off by the whole deal. VERY hard sell tactics and rude staff (maybe the centres in CO have nicer employees than in MN). The first thing I was greeted with was that a man would be doing the consult (this shy female was not comfortable with this especially given that some of their intake questions can get a bit personal - is this a weight loss centre or a psychologist's office?) and when I asked if it would be possible to meet with a female counselor the girl at the desk just looked over at her work-mate and shrugged, the work-mate replied "well... since she's teaching a class right now... the answer would be NO" and turned and walked away. Having made it through the consult, politely avoiding the more personal questions as to my motives for wanting to lose weight (is that really RELAVANT? I'm here to lose weight, why do you care if it's "to find a husband" --yes, that was ON the intake form-- to have more energy or to get in better health?) and I inform the young man that I would have to think about it and look at my budget because it was much more expensive than I expected ($861 to start plus "thermo-snacks" to the tune of $11-16/week -required- plus any supplements I wanted), he continued to push the program on me and I'd better sign up now to get this "deal" pricing. As I was walking out the door I overheard him saying something to the girl at the front desk that wasn't too kind, it was quite obvious he wasn't pleased that I didn't sign on the dotted line.

If it works for you, great! Good luck to you all, whichever path you take to better health and weight loss. Just be wary and smart and don't let some cocky, over-zealous salesman talk you into something you're not comfortable with.

I'm going to try a Weight Watchers meeting and see if that goes any better than the Slimgenics consult!

part. I did it twice and each time lost the 40 lbs and gained it back, plus when I went off the plan. It should work that one doesn't always have to follow to the letter without weight gain. I cannot eat like that the rest of my life.

Hi, I just discovered your blog today and not sure if anyone has mentioned this to you yet (I am a Slim 4 Life/Slimgenics "graduate"), but shop DietDirect.com - ALL of the slimgenics products are on there but they are called WonderSlim. All the bars, puddings, O's, everything is on there for about 30-40% less than you pay your center. They are the exact same product, just different name/packaging - all of the protein/calorie/nutritional values are the exact same. Plus it's free shipping after a certain dollar amount and they are always having sales. I wish I had known about them when I first joined the program, but it's saved me a lot of dollars since then. good luck on your journey!

  48. I tried Slimgenics about a year ago and found it to be completely unhealthy. I added up the calories I was eating daily and discovered I was only eating 700-800 calories a day, which is not safe! After I stopped doing the program I wanted to eat everything. I love to work out, but they kept "putting off" letting me go on some supposed "exercisers program" they had.

Seriously, don't waste your money. You don't need their stupid supplements and their snacks are ridiculously expensive. It's all about going back to basics. Calories in, and calories out. Eat right and exercise.

  49. If money is holding you back, it's just another excuse. Making a lifestyle change will always take an investment. Hell, switching to making your own food will seem like a costly time commitment over driving to Taco Bell. The truth is, if the price scares you, don't do it. Find some other way, there is always another way. My brother lost over 100 lbs in a year and a half just running. At almost 300 lbs he said, "enough!" and started running. He's run two marathons to date and is training for his third. He went into SlimGenics before all that, got told it would cost a year's time and 1000 dollars just to start SO HE FOUND ANOTHER WAY that works for him. Me? I started with SlimGenics in February because I said to myself "500 bucks today to definitely begin this journey, or another excuse to sit on my ass as it expands?" Because the truth was, at my weight, I didn't want to pick up and exercise. I didn't want to change the way I ate. But without the change, I would still be sitting here saying "but I saved [x amount of dollars]" eating my cheetos, sobbing every time I looked in the mirror.
SlimGenics was the change I needed. Not everyone needs that kind of change. It teaches you how to eat, the weight comes off noticeably quick and you're MOTIVATED to keep going, get healthy, etc. So if you've bought a gym membership and not gone, or have a treadmill or a bike or the Wii Fit at home collecting dust or you're STILL saying to yourself as you pick up that third doughnut or Venti triple caramel latte with extra whipped cream that you'll quit all the "crap" tomorrow... walk into your nearest SlimGenics center. You will not regret it. But it's definitely not for everyone. Find what works for you. The simple truth is CHANGE is what you need... find what CHANGE you need and DO IT!!! :) And good luck!!!

  50. Slimgenics program seems to be working for me, too. I joined Slimgenics in October 2009. I purchased all of my snacks, supplements, etc. on my first visit. I wouldn't suggest doing that because I didn't know what my "favorites" would be and relied on my counselor's advise on what would be good (along with samples that I tested that morning). Now I am eating less desirable "thermo snacks and thermo-boost flavors" just because they are expensive and I can't justify throwing them out or not using them. Which makes continuing the program more difficult when I don't look forward to the snacks and have to force the undesireable drink flavors down each day.
Also, I thought I had a counselor that would be "mine." I have seen so many counselor faces pass through those Slimgenics doors every month . . . No one stays for more than 3-4 weeks. Many of them transfer in from other local offices. Just when I start a comfortable relationship; the counselor just "disappears" . . . no advance notice or chance to say good-bye; just gone. And now they have stopped wearing their name tags, too. Since you are in the Denver Metro Area, are you experiencing this too, or is just this office location?

  51. Thanks for your posts everyone! I began Slimgenics just after Labor Day last fall and lost 35 lbs in 12 weeks. I had been trying to lose 35 lbs for 12 years before that! I found that the supplements paid off and i have been off the plan now for 7 months and have only gained back a few pounds. Good luck! It has helped me get my life back and I'm only 43:-)

  52. Thank you for this blog. I too find it expensive to lose the weight no matter what you use. Even if you do not join any plan/service, it cost more in the grocery stores for the "healthy" stuff. But it is all worth it in the end. If it means I lose the weight in my wallet first, then I need to suck it up and just do it. I think I would rather try this method than gastric-bypass like my friend just did.

  53. I have lost over 100 pounds, 51 inches and 7 dress sizes on Slimgenics Program! My BMI plummeted from 38 to 21! But most importantly, my doctor said my lab work looked like it came from a different person - it is so healthy. I was shocked by the cost when I first joined but it only made me work harder because I refused to waste the money. That and I realized that the cost of being unhealthy would ,in years to come, cost way more. Also, when I figured out how much I was spending on junk food, fast food, and diet pepsi the price of the thermosnacks seemed minimal (ps - I also buy them from a different source)They give you a supply of herbs, vitamins, carb blockers, efas, and thermoboost when you join. I never took the carb blockers and did not replace the herbs when they ran out. I take my own vitamins and fish oil and only occasionally buy thermoboost. I lost the weight without supplements. No one from Slimgenics stopped helping me or threatened to kick me out of the program because I wasn't taking their supplements or buying thermo snacks from them - ever. I was warned that it would nullify the money back guarantee but I didn't care because I was committed to the program and losing the weight. This may not be the case for everyone. I found that the plan worked as long as I followed it. I also go in 3+ times per week to keep me focused - especially when I feel like cheating or I have been naughty so that I don't blow it. I tried WW and other plans in the past but this plan worked with my lifestyle (My husband even lost weight because we changed our eating habits at home.) It may not be for everyone -- but I love it! GGGOOOOOO SLIMGENICS!

  54. I have been on the program for a little over 6 months now and have lost 110 lbs. I'm almost done and have been taking most of their recommended supplements. I have lost the weight in about half the projected time so I'm glad I didn't buy everything up front. They constantly have sales going on that are almost but not quite as good as the discounts they offer at the beginning, so if you think you might be able to lose the weight quicker, then just buy enough for a couple of months to see how it works.
Since the amount you pay overall is related to the number of weeks you sign up for and since that is dependent on how much you need to lose, I've been tracking my cost by the pound. For me I have spent about $28.50 per pound. Pricey yes, but what would you pay to lose the weight you need to lose.

  55. Hi,
The wife and i just got on the program two week ago with great results. We found it not to be high pressure at all. Our Westminster N store treated us great. We BOTH have lost 12 lbs and are doing great. The price??? OF course its high, but we knew that going in and to live heathy longer lives.....It something you just have to do, or dont bitch about the price....

  56. I lost 60 lbs in 6 months on Slimgenics. Probably could have lost it even faster, but I got lazy after the first 40 lbs and the last 20 went a little slower. It's worth absolutely every penny. Sure, it's expensive. But it's a helluva lot cheaper than diabetes, knee replacements, heart disease, and all the other horrors that come with excessive weight. I've lost 12 inches - an entire foot - off my waist. In my late thirties, I'm wearing smaller pants than I wore in high school. My energy level is through the roof - I haven't felt this good in 15 years. If it were three times as expensive, it would still be worth it.

  57. I just joined Last Tuesday and started the "prep phase" on Wednesday. I am on the 4th day of my plan and down a total of 5.75 pounds as of Monday morning. I had done Seattle Sutton's and lost 30 pounds, but then had to go back to cooking my own meals and eventually put it back on. I also missed cooking here and there and grocery shopping (maybe that is weird to miss, but it didn't feel normal to not have to shop). I like this so far because I feel like they hold me accountable and are helping me take on healthier eating and being aware of portions. I even bought a kitchen scale! I really want this to work and am taking it seriously. :) The biggest surprise to me was the amount of supplements to take and I'll admit I was not comfortable with this up front, but in reality they aren't anything too crazy and if they help me reach my goal then I will try them. They are not a Rx type of thing. Not sure if this helps anyone, but I did appreciate reading this blog, though I didn't see it before I joined, it was nice reading about those that had a similar reaction to me, and also those who have had great success! Keep it up and best wishes to all!

  58. Costly, but worth it. I've lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks! Can't wait to get the rest off so I can work in a slice of pizza now and again!

    Great blog! Dietdirect.com looks promising.

I am going to tell them I only want to weigh in on Saturday mornings though. It's discouraging to weigh in at different times of the day and get varying results.

  60. After having read this entire blog and checking out the various posted websites, I want to say that mother did S4L and lost about 70lbs, that was over 3yrs ago, but since then she has put back on about 10lbs. She was telling me about the pill supplements and she found healthy alternatives online and at the local healthfood store. She does continue to go an buy their snacks and eats them for high protein snacks. I'm a bit conflicted about the initial cost too, but I realize that I am the one who got me here and I have to get myself out of it. I have seen numerous of my mother's friend's have good success after witnessing my mother. So I know it works. But the question is, is it for me, cost and all?

  63. I have been doing the program for about a month now, and have lost 11 pounds. I wasn't extremely overweight to begin with, but I had some stubborn pounds that would not come off. It's a fact that it's easier to lose weight when you have more to lose. But what if you just have 20 extra pounds? Not so easy. So I went in for the consultation. I was really drawn to the accountability aspect of the program. Yeah, it's a bit pricey, but I have been greatly encouraged by the counselors and the results I've seen. So I've just accepted the idea of spending the money - it's worth it! It also feels so good once your body gets used to your new healthy way of eating. I feel awesome!

  67. I joined their home program last week and ordered supplements on line only to find out they have gelatin in them and thus I can not take them. Slimgenics does not take any products back and I found that the hard way. I ham selling the Herbal Metabolizer on Craigs list for $75 if some body is interested. It is sealed and I just got it this week.I will also give the Omegal slim bottle for free with it since I opened it but it is unused as well.I live in Broomfield Co.

  69. I've been doing Slimgenics for several months now and it definitely works if you do what they say. Yes it's expensive, but what's your health worth. I've lost 50 lbs and for the first time in my life, I feel like I can maintain this.

I definitely find that I eat a lot of salad now, so anyone out there who needs single serving packets of dressing, here is a great site http://referzo.com/1dean/www.minimus.biz

They have over a dozen different fat free dressings, and it sure is nice to be able to take decent dressing with you to restaurants and on business travel.

  70. So wish I could have read this BEFORE I started Slim4Life. It's kind of a big secret regarding their pricing, etc. Here's what I paid: $600ish for the 3x/week counseling and the starter pack (which I think was one bottle or box of everything they want you to take). They sent me a way to do the "prep phase" which was to eat tons of steak and raw vegetables for three days. This was times to start me on the program with the "class" more like an orientation. They give you a 33% off coupon that is only good for that night. No going home and thinking it over, etc. So they have you hooked in for the initial investment and then they quote you a price on how much it would be to send you home with everything you need to get you to your goal weight. I think my whole package was going to be about $2,000 and I only had 50 pounds to lose. I looked at the gal like she had two heads and she reaches under the huge desk calendar and pulls out another option. I said, no way. Then she pulls out a magic calculator kind of scale to tell me the next option. I think I walked away with about 10 weeks of stuff for about $1,000!!!! I was so mad! And you don't have time to walk away and see if you can find it cheaper, etc. I will say that it has kept me on the plan for three weeks and I have been pretty true to the plan. I've lost 14 lbs in three weeks and that's the best I've done in a long time. I would like it if they were upfront about the whole thing, but they probably wouldn't stay in business if they did.

  71. I started Slimgenics about a week ago; the three day prep made me so sick, that they stopped me at day two and started the stage 4 program. I don't drink caffeinated beverages, so the Thermo-Boost made me shaky, dizzy, and a rapid heartbeat for 1.5 days. I cut that down to 1/3rd with a large bottle of water for the day. The Omegas were not agreeing with my stomach either and I am only going to take one a day. I haven't started any of the other herbs since I am still feeling too nauseated. The staff is trying to convince me that it is only my body in "detox" mode and to keep taking the supplements etc.. My symptoms were lasting to long for me to decide otherwise. I was also told that NOBODY has ever had issue's with their omegas, but some have issues with the carb blocker (and I should get started on mine..) they do seem to push the sales. Anybody else have issues with the supplements?

I have been following the diet the best I can; I don't eat a variety of veggies and I have only been able to get half the water amount down per day. I feel like I am going to explode and vomit at the same time, yet I always feel a little hungry. :o/ I want to lose 65-75lbs; I am losing about 1 lb a day, so it is working, but I am struggling..
One thing that annoyed me was that, three days after paying to join in-full, plus buying snacks, they got me to sign up for the Platinum card, which is $199 and saves you 10% off future purchases. The package came with mostly supplements; she gave me two omegas (not taking..) I noticed that two days later and they "can't" exchange the unopened bottles= "You need those.." On top of the $199.00 card purchase I was also asked, "Would you like to save on your snacks and buy 16 of them for $160.00 today. I replied with, "$1,200+ in less then a week here, is enough for now." :o/

  72. Hi Everyone, I was at the first meeting today and the counselor told me is would be $780.00 to lose 117lbs and I would be at my goal weight 154 by Thanksgiving, isn't that a great time to be there, just in time to eat alot, lol. It did seem expensive but after figuring out the cost of Jenny Craig, weight watchers and lendora, I think its pretty good. The only thing I was worried about is if I pay cash and they go out of business or something but from what you all say they have been around for sometime. My friend she would put it on her credit card and I will give her the money, that way if there is a problem she can depute the charges with the credit card company. What do you all think?

  73. I have been on Slimgenics for 13 months. Lost 84 pounds in 8.5 months. Personal choice is health over cost. I did find that other companies sell the same exact snacks made by the same company but labeled under different weight loss programs. Try Diet Direct for some of the best prices - sometimes half the cost of Slimgenics. Also, check Craigslist or eBay for deals from former members. I save a lot buying this way.
Vitamins are not necessary from the company but they sure help. I buy the equivalent from an online company for about half the cost and have lost the weight - average 5 pounds/week.
Cost per week is about same as WW and food is A LOT CHEAPER than other plans that rely on purchasing full meals. Also, using real food helps you learn how to eat properly where WW et. al. food does not.
I am a happy camper with Slimgenics and a lot healthier for it. 264 to 180 in 8.5 months and holding!!

    1. It only says you have to buy their snacks to qualify for the guarantee. I go to multiple centers, one at work and one at home. So if they asked I tell them that I purchased it at another center. I buy all mine online.

  75. Dear Anonymous,
You are a sad, sad little person. Yes, it is all about me. It's my blog, about my journey. I don't get paid to write it, and I can be as arrogannt as I like.

As for my spelling, punctuation and gramatical errors, they have nothing to do with my aspirations to be an author. If I were to be turning something out I was hoping to be paid for, rest assured I know a good editor.

  77. I was on S4L about five years ago and lost 25lbs. I have gained back 15lbs now & I'm ready to start again. I sent them an e-mail to do their online program & then thought I must be a real nutcase. I have the entire program here & will just start doing it. It was very expensive & the worse part is I still have many boxes of the Thermo Snacks & some of the Thermo Boost left after 5 years. I'm wondering if it is still safe to eat? There is no expiration date on the boxes. Thanks anyone for your help.

  78. I did Slim 4 life in 07. I lost fifty pounds, caught a summer cold and wanted my comfort food. I leveled out there and couldn't do more. I paid about $2100 for the program and food for the one year.
I think it is more based on how much one makes over how much weight you want to lose. It kinda worked, but I have now gained it all back.

    1. I have done the program twice in the last five years. Both times starting at 170 and getting down to 130 in just under four months. Yes, I gained it all back twice and am almost at my goal weight (for the third time). It is extremely expensive, but it does work. Now at age 50, I just need to really focus on a healthier eating habit/lifestyle.

  81. When I first visited slimgenics and say with a consultant I was quoted $700 for the amount of weight I need to lose to get to my goal rate.Although the pressure was high and my determination to lose weight was even higher I had to decline and walk away because I couldn't afford that amount in a lump some. A few days later I got a phone call from the same consultant letting me know that the had a shorter program for $299, that I could do! I signed up and began the program which I was happy about. I just hit my 15lb mark and working my way down :-) . Like many others I no longer take the supplements but do the omegas because the said it helped with "loose skin" as weight is lost. I also do the thermo snacks but wish I could find other snacks elsewhere comparable to them so I don't have to pay $16 a box. I wish each of you the best of luck on your weight loss no matter your method or program :-)

  82. I realize that no one has published anything on this blog for almost 5 months so I'm not sure if anyone will see this question, but what I'm wondering is the thing they seem to base their program off of is the genetics portion - is this aspect of the program what is making it so successful? Or is it the dieting and supplements? Hopefully, someone will read this and can give me a heads up. I have about 22 pounds to lose due to thyroid & hormonal issues. I don't think that the required supplements are going to be something I care to do given all the other meds I take. And I KNOW I do NOT and WILL NOT take anything with caffeine in it as it leaves me feeling waaaaay too jittery. All being said though, seems like there have been some pretty remarkable results with this program. I'm really intrigued. I appreciate anyone's response.
    Thanks!

  83. Thank you so much for writing this! I just joined the program and wanted to cry after I walked out with my first weeks plan and snack and everything. I thought I was only going to be paying to maybe 300 MAX, according to a video I watched that's how much some guy paid... sadly I was foolish to believe that, or think I would get the same deal. It cost me $600 not to mention I will not be buying the snacks "in bulk" so I will be paying even more. I was questioning myself but this just made me feel ever so slightly better. Thanks again!

  85. You can buy the thermo snacks from dietdirect.com. They are much cheaper. I did this program almost seven years ago and kept the weight off until I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism over a year ago. I had gained 20lbs. After a year of taking different doses of Levothyroxine, my thyroid was finally in balance. Because I'm a lifetime member at slimgenics, I have over the years, gone in on occasion to weigh-in and stay on track. I went back a week ago to get help to shed the 20 lbs. I gained. I think the program works. If you think of all the diet pills, different diet books, gym memberships, etc., that you spend money on, the fee for slimgenics is not really that expensive. And the knowledge you gain on how to feed your body the right way is worth the price.
